Shalini wants her daughter, Jyoti, to get married with son of a wealthy man, Gulu. But Jyoti doesn't like Gulu. She meets Deepak and both fall in love. Shalini approves this match of Jyoti and Deepak. But Jyoti comes to know that Deepak is not a rich boy as he pretended all along the way.

In a small industrial town near Bombay lives Bholanath, who works at the local mill, and is the proud husband of Gauri, a daughter, Champa, and above all his son, Ramaiya, who is a graduate in the arts faculty, - the only one in this town who has attained this degree. But times are hard, and jobs are difficult to come by. When Bholanath loses his job, Ramaiya decides to find employment, and does so as a menial worker in the same mill his dad used to work. Ramaiya is very popular with his co-workers and they soon elect him as their new union leader. This puts Ramaiya in conflict with the Management of the Mill, headed by the owner, Kapoor, who has ordered that Ramaiya be eliminated post haste. But Ramaiya is determined to address the workers` grievances, and he gets himself framed for theft; has the police on the lookout for him, and so Ramaiya goes into hiding.

The story of two teenage girls Gunjan and Rachna. Gunjan, a modern girl living in Mumbai, loses her very loved mother after she gets diagnosed with cancer. Sneha, Gunjan's late mother, tells her sister Shail before she dies to take Gunjan back to her very large family and home in Banaras. Gunjan is very disrespectful to everyone but slowly gets to realise the habits of the Garg household. Rachna, an old- fashioned, sweet and simple girl living in Banaras is delighted to have a sister and makes Gunjan happy in every way she can with her mischievous little cousin, Dholu. Lots of problems enter the Garg household but will they be able to handle them whilst sticking together as one?

Forced into marriage with a mentally deranged man, Yashoda (Farida Jalal) gives birth to a child, only to have her husband kill himself and the child, leaving her devastated and alone. This leaves her brother, Bhanu (Anupam Kher) angry and bitter at this loss, and swears to avenge this humiliation. Bhanu, in his mid forties, has still not married, although he used to actively woo a village belle (Aruna Irani), who still has feelings for him. One day Bhanu and Mahipal give a ride in their bullock-cart to a couple, Baldev (Satish Shah), and his sister Jalima (Juhi Chawla), who are travelling and performing gypsies. During this ride, Bhanu hopelessly falls in love with Jalima, on one hand, and Mahipal wants to ditch the couple midway, as he does not like them. A series of hilarious and comical ...

A love triangle, the film is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster movie Dasara Bullodu (1971), made by the same company and director. Mohan Lal Srivatsav loves Gauri and so does Shyama. The rivals in love are close friends, their friendship proves to be stronger than their love. When Gauri learns that Shyama loves Mohan, she decides to sacrifice her love, her dream, her life for her friend's happiness.

Amar G. Kapoor is an unemployed but talented youth who was born in Lahore, and is the grandson of renowned Lala Kedarnath.

In order to assist her close friend, Rajni Thakur, Geeta Choudhary, has an abortion in her name, so that Rajni can get married. When her secret gets leaked out, Geeta's husband, Ashok, blames her, accuses her of being unfaithful, and drives her out of his house. They have twins, Sunil and Anil, and each parent is allowed custody of one child. The children meet each other at Scout camp, and decide to re-unite their parents, without realizing that they are exposing not only them, but also each other, to danger and death.

Madhu Roy comes to India to study medicine all the way from Bangla Desh. She meets with fellow student Vijay Chatterjee, and after a few misunderstandings both of them fall in love. Vijay takes Madhu to introduce her to his mother, who approves of her, and would like to meet with her dad to finalize their marriage. One day when Vijay`s mom goes to meet Madhu in her hostel room, she sees a photograph of Madhu with an older man. Thereafter, she wants Vijay to cut off all relations with Madhu, and will not even talk to Madhu as to why she has changed her mind about their marriage. She then travels to Bangla Desh in order to meet the man in the photograph with Madhu, and it is here she will find out if indeed Vijay and Madhu are about to commit incest, as both may be brother and sister from the same man - her husband - who she believed died in the early 1970s during the turmoil when Bangla Desh was formed after separating from Pakistan.
